Neighborhood Housing Services of New Haven’s HomeOwnership Center (HOC) had the opportunity to support local students in building a strong foundation for their financial futures.
Housing Coordinator Heidie Colon-Rosa represented the HOC at the Credit for Life Fair hosted by Liberty Bank at Platt High School. The interactive event brought together sophomore and junior students for a hands-on experience designed to simulate real-world financial decision-making.
The Credit for Life Fair walks students through key financial choices, from budgeting for housing and transportation to managing savings and credit. Heidie’s station was the final stop for many students where she provided one-on-one credit counseling, helping students understand:
- What credit is and how it works
- Why credit matters in everyday life
- How to build and maintain a strong credit profile
This event reflects the HOC’s ongoing commitment to providing financial education. Teaching young people about credit early empowers them to make informed decisions and build pathways toward long-term financial independence.
The HOC looks forward to continuing to be involved in increasing financial education and equipping students with the tools they need to thrive.
