NeighborWorks Week is coming up! As part of this week of volunteering and community events, we are asking everyone to clean up trash around their favorite places and post a picture of the trash they cleaned up on the reddit community DeTrashed. If you’re new to the reddit world, here are a few tips and tricks to make posting for your first time a little bit easier!
What is reddit?
Reddit is an online collection of forums and communities on the internet. On there, people with similar interests post and discuss these interests with others. These communities are called “subreddits.”
Who can sign up?
Anyone can have a reddit account! To make one, first search “reddit” and click on the first non-ad link. Then, click the “register” button on the upper right hand of the home page of reddit. You will be prompted to create a username and password, and then you’ll be all set!
How do you post on reddit?
Here are some simple steps on how to make your first post on reddit. First, you search for the community you want to post in with the search bar. For this case, you would search “/r/DeTrashed.” Once you find the community, click “create post.” From there, you will be asked to choose between a text post, a media post (which has a photo or video,) or a link post (which includes a link to another site.) You’ll notice the DeTrashed subreddit has media posts sharing the different clean-up efforts forum members have participated in. Once you are done adding the information you want, click “post.” Now you have made your first post on reddit!
Why post on /r/Detrashed?
We would like you to post on /r/DeTrashed to share our effort to beautify New Haven for both yourselves and future generations! Clean streets and parks also help mental health AND increase property values. Posting on /r/DeTrashed helps connect you with people all over the world with the same goal: valuing their neighborhood, protecting the environment and making the world a better place!
When should I start?
Right now! It is never too late OR too early to help the environment and beautify your block. The sooner you start, the cleaner the world will be for everyone!
