Neighborhood Housing Services of New Haven (NHS) is partnering with Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) Connecticut to support a cohort of over fifteen Family Child Care (FCC) providers statewide to invest in safer, healthier, and more energy-efficient facilities.
Through this partnership, NHS of New Haven’s HomeEnergy ConneCT team will work directly with each FCC provider to identify eligible energy efficiency projects, connect them with trusted contractors, provide technical assistance throughout the process, and help identify additional funding sources to reduce project costs.
Beyond supporting immediate home improvements, the program is also designed to build long-term capacity. Each FCC provider will also attend the New Haven HomeOwnership Center’s Financial Boot Camp, followed by three individualized credit coaching sessions to develop effective money management skills. Program participants will also have access to long term follow-up support from HomeEnergy ConneCT.
The project is made possible through a national partnership between Procter & Gamble (P&G) and LISC, which expands access to capital and business support for independently owned childcare programs across the country. Together, P&G and LISC have helped more than 120 childcare entrepreneurs increase revenue, access flexible financing, and complete facility improvements that create safer, more efficient learning environments. Nearly 98% of participating providers serve children in under-resourced communities. Building on that success, LISC Connecticut’s initiative makes $150,000 available for energy-efficient home improvements for the participating FCC providers, who own and live in the residences where they operate their childcare business.
