John C. Tracy, a civil engineering professor at Yale University, built 345 Winthrop Avenue between November 1900 and May 1901. The house is an opulent example of early Colonial Revival-style architecture; as a testament to its fine details, the house was featured multiple times in issues of Connecticut's Sunday Chronicle as one of "Connecticut's Most Attractive Homes."
